Who I am
My name is Hayden Patterson. I am a graphic designer that achieved my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design at Aurora University in Illinois that I recieved in May of 2026. I earned my associate’s degree at Elgin Community College and took a semester at Columbia College Chicago to pursue a degree in film directing. I decided that my passions aligned more with Graphic Design, so I changed course to pursue a career in that field instead of film. I have many skills in the design field ranging from working with 3D software, 2D work, typography, visual communication, UI/UX design, photography, motion graphics, and some video game design. A goal I have in this career is to work in the video game industry as I have a specialty in architecture level design.
I previously worked at Classic Cinemas as an usher/concessions employee for about two years. Shortly after this, I earned a promotion and became an assistant manager. Working at the theater gave me a lot of good experience in the working world, where I got to learn many aspects of the job. I gained many skills including teamwork, leadership, problem-solving skills, and overall job efficiency. Working required that I managed my time effectively, communicated efficiently, and compromised.
During my time at Aurora University, I interned at East Aurora Counseling as a graphic design/marketing intern. There, I learned a lot more about what a career in graphic design is like. I worked on updating their website, making flyers and posters, managing social media, create promotional videos, and attend different marketing events. These tasks allowed me to further develop my skills in design like web design, 2D design, and typography.
